On July 7, 2016, five police officers were killed and eight injured in the line of duty in an ambush. Run For The Blue was founded in response to this attack to support fallen and injured officers and their families. In observance of the first anniversary of the ambush, Run For The Blue Dallas 2017, part of the Weekend of Honor, will be held from 8 to 11 a.m., July 8, in Trinity Groves.

In addition to a 5K and one-mile run/walk, ceremonies honoring fallen and injured officers will be held. Both walkers and runners are welcome. Packet pickup and event day registration begins at 6:30 a.m., with opening ceremonies at 7:30 a.m. The 5K and one-mile run/walk start at 8 a.m. There will be a post-run/walk ceremony at 9 a.m.
