Keller Farmers Market is pleased to announce the market will accept state issued Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards, the electronic delivery method for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), known as the Lone Star Card in Texas this season as part of a pilot program with the Texas Department of Agriculture.

SNAP, formerly known as the Food Stamp Program, is a federally funded program which delivers monthly nutrition benefits to over 40 million Americans nationwide, 3.5 million in Texas.  Eligible items include fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, poultry, eggs, dairy products, baked goods, jams and jellies and honey.  The purchase of vegetable plants and potted herbs is also acceptable.

Subscribers can swipe their card at the market’s information booth for their desired dollar amount and in exchange, receive that amount in paper market dollars.  The market dollars will be issued in $1 and $5 increments for use with participating vendors throughout the farmer’s market.

The information booth is accessible during market hours on Saturdays from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm, and market dollars may be used anytime the market is open.  The Keller Farmers Market is located around the Keller Town Hall Fountain at 1100 Bear Creek Parkway. The market operates rain or shine, unless it is threatening weather, through October 29, 2011.
