Trish Percy teaching the canning class at the Coppell Farmers Market.

The peaches are here!  It's hard to limit yourself but you don't want them to go to waste.  Come learn how to preserve peaches by canning, making jam, dehydrating and freezing at a free class offered at the Coppell Farmers Market.  Power to the peach!

Preserve Summer, Preserve Peaches Class will be held on June 29, 2013 at 10:00 am at Main Tent at the Coppell Farmers Market, 793 S. Coppell Rd. in Old Town Coppell. The Coppell Farmers Market is open every Saturday through Thanksgiving from 8am to noon.  Summer fruits are making their way from the farms and orchards to the market, including berries, peaches, plums, and melons.  This class helps preserve this season’s fruit for year round enjoyment.

The class will be taught by Trish Percy is the Director of the Grow Your Own project of Grow North Texas, a nonprofit based in Dallas/Fort Worth.  After retiring from the Army, she became concerned about the dismal level of food security in north Texas.  Her sister had a small berry farm and CSA and Trish saw firsthand how difficult it was to be a small farmer.  Grow North Texas arose from her realization that there was a need for networking and information sharing among farmers.  Her passion is to teach people to grow, preserve and eat their food.  For the past two years Trish has conducted hoophouse construction workshops and food preservation classes within the north Texas community. She is a Denton County Master Gardener and the north central Texas regional director of the Texas Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association.   She blogs at www.growwhereyouare.blogspot.com

Preserve Summer, Preserve Peaches Class will kick-off the 2013 Market to Kitchen series at the Coppell Farmers Market.  Coming up on July 13th is a chef demo by Chef Jeff Bekavac, with Neighborhood Services.
