Employees from area Starbucks Coffee Shops are volunteering to work in the organic gardening project in Lewisville on land furnished by the Trinity River Water Project. Crops include corn, cucumbers, lettuce, carrots, beans, radishes, squash, onions, melons and bell peppers. Starbucks also provides coffee grounds for the garden.

Produce from the project is used to support the Salvation Army feeding program, providing free, hot meals in Lewisville each weekday. Scraps from the kitchen are used to make compost for the garden. Through the organic gardening project, those that benefit from the more than 500 meals each week now enjoy an added element of nutrition from fresh produce grown right in their own community.
