The Texas Trees Foundation, which sustains a tree-planting initiative for neighborhood parkways and medians, schools and other public open spaces, has received the 2016 Greater Dallas Planning Council Dream/Unbuilt Project award. This award specifically recognizes the Foundation’s innovative partnership with Southwestern Medical District to create an Urban Streetscape Master Plan, as well as other projects that exemplify best practices in urban design and employ innovative strategies to improve the quality of place and quality of life in the community.
CEO Janette Monear says, “The Southwestern Medical District Urban Streetscape project, when completed, will have a transformative impact on Dallas’ Medical District by connecting the entire area for the benefit of the community and the city at large. This includes creating a long-overdue sense of place in a part of our city yearning for life and vitality and, at the same time, serving as a catalyst for economic development.”
